Workplace Discrimination

Treated differently because of who you are?

The Equality Act 2010 protects against discrimination because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. Discrimination claims have particular features and time limits.

Typical situations

  • You have been overlooked, disciplined or dismissed and believe a protected characteristic played a part.
  • A policy or practice disadvantages you compared with others.
  • You have been treated badly after complaining about discrimination.

Practical first steps

  • Write down what happened, when, and how others were treated.
  • Keep copies of relevant policies and correspondence.
  • Take advice about time limits early — each act may carry its own deadline.

How WorkplaceDisputes.uk may assist

  • Analysing the treatment against the relevant legal tests.
  • Preparing grievances, questions to your employer and evidence.
  • Supporting you through ACAS Early Conciliation and tribunal proceedings.
