Bullying and Harassment

Being bullied or harassed at work?

Bullying and harassment can take many forms, from open hostility to subtle exclusion. Where the behaviour relates to a protected characteristic it may amount to harassment under the Equality Act 2010, which carries its own legal consequences.

Typical situations

  • A manager or colleague repeatedly undermines, humiliates or excludes you.
  • You have reported the behaviour and nothing has changed.
  • The behaviour is affecting your health and you are considering sick leave.

Practical first steps

  • Keep a contemporaneous diary of incidents with dates and witnesses.
  • Preserve messages and emails.
  • Consider whether the behaviour relates to a protected characteristic.

How WorkplaceDisputes.uk may assist

  • Helping you identify what the behaviour amounts to in legal terms.
  • Structuring a grievance or formal complaint.
  • Advising on next steps if the internal process fails.
